Know Your NASCAR Bloggers: Michael Bills
This week it’s time to learn more about another Michael, of NASCAR Eclectic. If you haven’t visited, he offers up great thoughts and witty commentary. He is also a talented photographer .
How long have you blogged? 14 months.
Why do you blog? Or what made you start blogging? For the fun and meeting other NASCAR bloggers.
Where do you blog from? Home (Lake George, NY).
How long have you been a NASCAR fan? Since I was a kid… 45 years.
What made you become a fan? My love of fast cars.
Do you attend races, and which ones? Loudon, Talladega, Dover, Pocono, Daytona.
What do you enjoy about your blog and the NASCAR blogging community? Interacting with others.
Is there anything you don’t enjoy about blogging, or the NASCAR online community? No.
Is there one thing that was key to your blog’s success? Success or level of success is irrelevant as long as I can make someone smile or make their day a better one than I have succeeded.
Name something cool that has come as a result of your blog. I had the honor to meet George of Vroom in person while in Florida.
You are one of several bloggers that received access to NASCAR’s media site and credentials. How has that helped your blogging? Well it gives me some added information, but it’s limited and it seems the information is moot by the time it’s released, although the videos and photos are very cool.
You are also a very talented photographer. Have you been approved for NASCAR photography credentials? Thanks for the compliment. Photo credentials are issued by the individual tracks. I have one foot in the door at Loudon, the other is stuck on some red tape.
You are a big diecast fan and often write about paint schemes. What are some of your favorite schemes of the last few years? Yes I have a big collection. One of my faves is a gift from George. It’s Jr.’s #8 Elvis CoT and I like the military schemes.
Do you have any strange or funny stories about your blog (funny or outrageous comments or emails from people, etc.)? Not really other than the occasional solicitor who thinks I could benefit by placing their logo on my site. One offered me a whopping $75.00 blatantly in an email. I wrote back with my usual wit and sarcasm that I accept, my terms are $100 per day paid in advance for a full year. I never heard back! If I could earn a living blogging I’d sell my house and move down near George!
What is something your readers wouldn’t otherwise know about you or your blog? Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s I fell into the wild life of those times. My parents were very successful so as a kid I had it all: waterfront home, boats, snowmobiles, trips to Florida, etc. But my life became a horrible affair of legal and personal problems due to drug and alcohol abuse. The good news is that that is history and it gave me the gifts of helping others, coping skills, insight and fortitude in whatever I choose. Hence the success of my contracting business and now I’ve placed a huge investment of time into building a photography business.
